WVTV Students Honored as IP Scholars

Waubonsie Valley held its Indian Prairie Scholar Awards Ceremony on Wednesday night. 224 students were awarded the honor of IP Scholar, which is attained by maintaining a 3.6 or higher cumulative grade point average over their 7 semesters at WV.

Of the 224 IP scholars,  20 of those students are currently part of WVTV’s media program. Alyssa Pappas, Kellie Regan, Joey Napolitano, Arnuv Aurora, Kiki Moussetis, Caleigh Beckett, Kailee Santoro, Kaylee Thompson, Rian Sondag, Kevin Horan, Mariah Mayo, Aarush Gupta, Sophie Cornwell, Caroline Cordes, Max Mika, Emma Dublin, Jacob Furman, Suraj Patel, Maddie Vuksinic, and Minoo Vasudevan.

The senior Class of 2016 consists of an enrollment of 641 students. It was the second highest percentage of IP Scholars of any senior class at Waubonsie.

Pre-Order your 2015 WVHS Graduation DVDs

Graduation1AURORA, IL — WVTV students will be video recording WVHS’ 2015 Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 24, at the NIU Convocation Center. The public can purchase DVDs of the event for $20 apiece. All proceeds from DVD sales will go toward WVTV for media equipment for students.

The DVDs make a great gift or keepsake for graduates or family and friends who either are unable to attend the event, or would like to relive the memory.

People may pre-order DVDs by clicking here. Print and fill out the form, and follow the mailing instructions on the form. Customers may also purchase DVDs at one of several WVTV tables in the lobby of the NIU Convocation Center on Graduation Day.

WV Offers Media Communication & Production for 2015-2016

QZ2AURORA, IL — Students of all grade levels have the opportunity to learn about the world of media in Waubonsie Valley’s Media Communication and Production course.

Students who register for the year-long class will get the chance to use professional grade cameras and computer editors to create a wide variety of projects, such as commercials, short films, news stories and music videos.

This dual-credit course, in conjunction with the College of DuPage, is a survey of Mass Media designed to provide students an introduction to the various forms of electronic media, such as radio, television, film and online media. Students will also develop media literacy and the skills necessary to create productions in a changing media environment.

Classroom work is exhibited on the school’s Web site, YouTube Channel and its weekly video news magazine, Warrior Update.Skrypek

WVTV Class Rosters Set for 2014-2015

Senior Mike Skrypek returns for another year of media production for WVTV.

AURORA, IL – With class schedules released to Waubonsie Valley High School students this week, WVTV got a sneak peek at its roster for the 2014-2015 school year.

The media production classes boast seven total sections with a combined 180 students this year. The schedule includes four sections of Media Communication & Production I, two sections of Broadcast Journalism & Production II, and one section of Broadcast Journalism & Production III. A total of 23 seniors will be returning to the program. Overall, enrollment in Waubonsie Valley High School media classes jumped over 8% from last year.

Beginner level students are taught the basics of media production and media literacy through a variety of assignments and projects. Upper level media students who specialize in film production work on various projects, including music videos, short films, commercials and public service announcements, while those who specialize in broadcast journalism work on the school’s weekly video magazine, Warrior Update.  

Classes begin on Tuesday, August 26, and will once again be taught by Brian Wiencek and Brent Bloem.

WVTV Announces 2014 Football Broadcast Schedule

AURORA, IL — Waubonsie Valley High School Media Production will once again broadcast Warrior football on the internet this year. In conjunction with High School Cube, WVTV will cover all five home games in 2014 with opponents including Naperville Central, East Aurora, West Aurora, Metea Valley and South Elgin.

WVTV broadcasts are operated by students in production roles, such as director, producer, play-by-play announcer and camera operator. WVTV has been broadcasting high school events online since 2012, including football, volleyball, basketball and musical concerts. Football broadcasts averaged over 2,000 viewers per game in 2013.

Carvallo Named WVTV Student of the Month

AURORA, IL — Waubonsie Valley High School junior Natalie Carvallo has been selected as WVTV’s Student of the Month for February 2014.

Carvallo is in her second year with WVTV and is also involved with the school’s Orchesis dance program. Carvallo produced two music videos, one for Palma Violets’ “Best of Friends” and another for “Some Time Alone, Alone” by Melody’s Echo Chamber. In addtion, Carvallo produced a one-minute advertisement for the Brandy Melville clothing line.

Last year, as a sophomore, Carvallo won third place at the Chicagoland Television Educators Council Film Festival for a group-produced commercial for H&M stores. Carvallo is again representing Waubonsie Valley this year with two projects in the 2014 CTEC Film Festival on April 25 at Neuqua Valley High School.

Media production genes run in the family. Natalie’s brother, Christian, who was a three-year WVTV student, graduated in 2013, and now attends Loyola Marymount University in California.
